OC Shelter Partners – Helping People Keep Their Pets

The car comes to a stop, the back door opens and in reaches a woman’s shaking hand to pick up the carrier that’s buckled in on the back seat. Inside, a kitty meows and scratches at the carrier door, unsure of what is happening. Tears fill the woman’s eyes as she turns and faces the shelter, ashamed, but uncertain of what else to do.

Enter OC Shelter Partners, an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit that works to keep pets with their people. Founded in November 2015, the group has already kept over 1,000 animals from entering the shelter. Continue reading “OC Shelter Partners – Helping People Keep Their Pets”

Blog the Change for Animals – Rescue Roundup #BtC4A

1-Blog-the-Change.pngBlog the Change for Animals is something new to me, but I’ve recently learned that it is a quarterly opportunity for bloggers to post about an animal-related cause that is near and dear to that blogger’s heart. I think this is just fantastic!

I immediately started researching more about this campaign and found out that your post can support a favorite cause or shelter, mention a foster or friend doing good, or talk about a cause-related topic in general.

Coincidentally, I had been planning to do a Rescue Roundup of all of the animal rescues that I’ve featured thus far on my blog, intending to Continue reading “Blog the Change for Animals – Rescue Roundup #BtC4A”

Cat Pawsitive with the Jackson Galaxy Foundation

My guess is that if you’re reading this blog, you probably know who Jackson Galaxy is…but I suppose there is still a chance that you’re a cat lover and you’ve never heard of him. So just in case, Jackson Galaxy (a.k.a. America’s Cat Daddy) is best known for hosting the Animal Planet show “My Cat from Hell,” where he helped cat owners work on their cats’ behavioral issues. But before that, Jackson started his career with Continue reading “Cat Pawsitive with the Jackson Galaxy Foundation”

Shelter Me: Hearts & Paws (Episode 6)

Shelter Me LogoI was recently given the opportunity to watch the upcoming national PBS show “Shelter Me: Hearts & Paws” that premieres on May 22nd. Filmmaker Steven Latham created the “Shelter Me” series because he wants communities to get involved with their local animal shelters by adopting, fostering, donating, volunteering and/or by networking shelter pets through social media.

I was thrilled to watch the episode and then be able to pose questions to the two people featured. Hosted by celebrity animal lover Kristen Bell, the hour-long episode is Continue reading “Shelter Me: Hearts & Paws (Episode 6)”

The Three Chatty Cats Say Thank You

On Tuesday afternoon a very exciting and unexpected email arrived. I learned that Three Chatty Cats had been nominated for two BlogPaws 2016 Nose-to-Nose Awards – Best Cause Blog and Best New Pet Blog.

I started Three Chatty Cats in January simply because I love cats and enjoy writing, and I thought it would be fun to marry two of my passions. I didn’t have a firm direction or plan in mind with my first few posts. But I quickly discovered that Continue reading “The Three Chatty Cats Say Thank You”

Kitty Close-up: Dan Sandy and his 58,000 feline photos

By day, Dan Sandy has been a Computer-Aided Drafter for the past 14 years and is currently a Technical Designer (CADD) in Northeastern Ohio. But Dan doesn’t just use his skills to make maps, blueprints and other technical schematics, he also volunteers at the Cleveland Animal Protective League and takes photos of their shelter cats. He has been volunteering and photographing at Cleveland APL since August 2009.

A Conversation with Dan

Dan Sandy - PhotographerPlease explain a little bit about Cleveland APL:
Located in the Tremont area of Cleveland, the Cleveland Animal Protective League relies solely on donations and program fees to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty in Cuyahoga County and assist nearly 15,000 homeless animals a year through a variety of progressive programs. The Cleveland APL has been creating “happily ever afters” in Northeast Ohio since 1913. Continue reading “Kitty Close-up: Dan Sandy and his 58,000 feline photos”

Howard County Cat Club

Missy Zane is the founder and president of Howard County Cat Club, based in Columbia, Maryland. But she is more than just that, Missy is also “head cat mom,” admin, and the PR and social media person for the 501(c)3 rescue. Missy says, “I also do a lot of behavior counseling and provide other advice to try to keep cats out of rescue, decide which cats to take in our shelter – not all are a good match for us – and interview and approve adopters.”

Missy started Howard County Cat Club in celebration of the 20th anniversary of her cat sitting services. Continue reading “Howard County Cat Club”
