Caring for Community Cats with Terry (and Brian!)

Brian’s Home is a popular blog hosted by mancat Brian that promotes adoption by always signing off with “Adopt cats, we deserve it!” That’s definitely a blog that’s right up our alley! But, do you know the human behind Brian’s Home? If not, prepare to meet Terry Frum today!

This coming weekend on October 16th, cat lovers everywhere will be taking part in and promoting National Feral Cat Day, a day to raise awareness about community cats, often referred to as feral cats. While we will have more on National Feral Cat Day later, I thought it was appropriate this week to highlight people who do their part to help feral cats.

Enter Terry – who has been working with community cats since 1999. While Terry primarily works with feral cats in the greater Greenville area and upstate South Carolina, he has been involved in rehoming cats and kittens throughout the entire country.

Before we meet Terry, want to know something fun(ny)? Sometimes when fellow bloggers meet Terry in person, they call him Brian. Something Terry considers to be a compliment. I wonder how Brian feels about that…

OC Shelter Partners – Helping People Keep Their Pets

The car comes to a stop, the back door opens and in reaches a woman’s shaking hand to pick up the carrier that’s buckled in on the back seat. Inside, a kitty meows and scratches at the carrier door, unsure of what is happening. Tears fill the woman’s eyes as she turns and faces the shelter, ashamed, but uncertain of what else to do.

Enter OC Shelter Partners, an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit that works to keep pets with their people. Founded in November 2015, the group has already kept over 1,000 animals from entering the shelter. Continue reading “OC Shelter Partners – Helping People Keep Their Pets”

Animal Authors Unite: A Day at the OC Children’s Book Festival (and giveaway!)

On a picture-perfect, clear blue sky day, with the aroma of kettle corn filling the air, a young child runs up to a book display, pointing at the book cover and shouting back to her parent in tow – “A kitty, a kitty!” This scene played out numerous times this past weekend, where I had the privilege of attending the Orange County Children’s Book Festival with my friend, author Jaimi Ilama.

Jaimi was stationed in an author booth, where she sold and signed her book, The Upstairs Cat, for her new adoring fans, and I was Jaimi’s steadfast booth buddy. But I brought more to the table than just my payment processing skills. I provided signs for the children to hold and pose with in front of…you guessed it…cats and kittens!

In order to spread awareness about cat adoptions, Jaimi invited Continue reading “Animal Authors Unite: A Day at the OC Children’s Book Festival (and giveaway!)”

Sophie and the SureFeed Review (plus giveaway!)

Raise your paw if you’re a grazer. Raise ’em high and raise ’em proud! In our household, Sophie is the resident grazer. A nibble here, a nibble there…a mid-nibble snooze…then back for another nibble.

As the human who monitors the nibbling, I need to allow for enough grazing time but not enough time for the food to spoil. So, I was more than happy to try out the SureFeed Sealed Pet Bowl from SureFlap.

What is SureFeed and How Does It Work?

SureFeed is a sealed pet bowl and its lid automatically opens when your pet approaches, allowing your pet access to their food at any time. The lid then closes when the pet is done eating and seals in freshness and odors – and keeps out bugs! Pretty simple, but pretty smart. My Dirty Paws – An Art Project About Shelter and Rescue Animals

Stacy Tang is an artist in California who volunteers at a local animal shelter and has created a heartwarming art project called My Dirty Paws. With an eight-year-old, adopted cat at home named Casper, he is Stacy’s inspiration and favorite model. However, it is shelter and rescue pets that truly drive this touching project.

From MyDirtyPaws.com:

MY DIRTY PAWS is a passion project I created in 2014 to document the lovely souls that I met at animal shelters. A lot of shelter animals are instantly labeled as difficult and trouble, but only with a little more patience and love, you will Continue reading “My Dirty Paws – An Art Project About Shelter and Rescue Animals”

Zen Clipper Review and Giveaway

Let’s face it. Most cats love nail trim time. Mine do. Don’t yours?

Perhaps I’m exaggerating a bit. Actually, nail trim time is a two-person job in this household. Human #1 wrangles the cat – then with sweat dripping from the brow, deposits the cat onto the blanket covered lap of human #2. Out come the clippers, a few grunts and grumbles ensue (and also a few yowls from the kitty) – clip, clip, clip – and we’re done! Then, onto cat #2 and cat #3. Sound familiar? Continue reading “Zen Clipper Review and Giveaway”

Let’s Shine a Light for #RememberMeThursday

Remember Me Thursday takes place this year on September 22, 2016. It is a day to remember that there are orphan pets in shelters and rescues who are waiting for their forever homes – and also to remember those who never made it out of the shelters.

Here at Three Chatty Cats, we strive to promote and support cat rescues and adoptions by highlighting rescue groups, sharing adoption stories, and showcasing individuals who do their part to help cats in need. So, we want to do our part in supporting this special day, Remember Me Thursday, by continuing to bring attention to shelter cats waiting for their forever homes. Now, let’s learn more about Remember Me Thursday! Continue reading “Let’s Shine a Light for #RememberMeThursday”
