Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday…and now today is Giving Tuesday!
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
Sophie here! As many humans are currently hustling and bustling about, preparing meals, tidying up the house and welcoming guests, I thought I would take this time to tell you what I am – I mean – what we three chatty cats are thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Did you know that November is Adopt a Senior PetMonth? If not, now you do!
So often, seniors are passed over in shelters for younger cats or kittens, which makes seniors harder to adopt out, oftentimes with them staying longer in the shelter than younger pets. But with a senior pet, you know what you’re getting! They’re full-grown in size, they’ve already developed into their personality, and a senior pet just knows that you’re rescuing them.
To celebrate and encourage adopting senior pets this month (and any month), I’d like to share with you the adoption story of Mary Moon. This senior tortie cat’s Instagram profile (yes, of course Mary has an Instagram account!) says: “Professional lap cat and sweater connoisseur.” That sounds pretty intriguing. I simply had to know more about this adorable senior cat.
Today we look at Sabrina Boem’s shelter photography. In earlier posts, we saw her stray cat photography and people with cats – all stunning black and white photography. If you’ve read those other posts, you know that Sabrina, who lives in Italy, is a talented amateur photographer with a love for cats. Let’s look at her shelter photography now and see how it all started.
Sophie here! Listen up cats and kittens! I’m not sure if you’re a kitty who loves Halloween or not, but I have some tips that are sure to get you through the upcoming ghoulish day and night.
1) Don’t make it easy for costume fittings
Are you a cat who loves to dress up? Then I personally think you’re a rarity. In our household, none of us like to be dressed up, so we have to remind the Mama of that and not cooperate during costume fittings. I recommend giving the measuring tape a good ol’ chomp or whap!
Here at Three Chatty Cats we love sharing adoption and rescue stories. But what about when the adoption story is lacking an ending? Today we’re introducing you to Summer and Splash who are being fostered in Richmond, Virginia with Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. (C.A.R.E.). I hope that in sharing their story, it brings them one step closer to a forever home. And by all means, please feel free to share, too!
The Story of Summer and Splash
Shared by foster mom Kelsey at C.A.R.E
I rescued Summer from a feral colony when she was eight months old and pregnant. At first she was very shy, but I worked with her every day, gaining her trust. Soon she learned that humans meant good things to eat and a gentle scratch under the chin.
Have you ever seen a cat in a yellow hat? I hadn’t until I came across the Oliver Poons Children’s Company. Founded by Lauryn Alyssa Wendus, the company is dedicated to providing smiles and happiness through their children’s books for young readers, along with their educational workbooks and games. Oliver Poons, the main character in the books, was inspired by Lauryn’s own adopted cat, Oliver.
What I love about this company is that they partner with animal shelters and rescue groups across the U.S. and donate 15% of their online sales. And the buyer gets to choose the shelter or rescue!
Some cat owners may not be familiar with the term whisker stress, a.k.a whisker fatigue, but it does exist and your cat may be experiencing it. Whisker stress can occur when your cat eats from its food dish that is a typical pet food bowl – one with high sides – and their whiskers touch the edge of the bowl while eating.
Remember, your cat’s whiskers are very sensitive touch receptors, and they are a sensory tool for your cat, helping it navigate their world and surroundings.
To eliminate whisker stress, it is a good idea to feed your cat from a shallow dish, so their whiskers do not touch the sides of the bowl while eating. If you want to relieve your cat’s whisker stress (and who wouldn’t want to do that), why not do it in style?
Today we are giving away a beautiful and classy Whisker Stress Free Cat Feeder from Trendy Pet!
Cat lovers who are involved with or simply care about community cats may know that tomorrow is National Feral Cat Day. Started by Alley Cat Allies 15 years ago in 2001, each year October 16th is meant to raise awareness about feral and community cats. The 2016 theme of National Feral Cat Day is All Cats All Communities and you can learn more at NationalFeralCatDay.org.
In honor of the upcoming National Feral Cat Day, today we continue with highlighting people and groups who are doing their part to help feral and community cats. TNR of Warren, a group that was founded in September 2008, started “as a vision of what can be accomplished when a Trap-Neuter-Return organization, veterinarians and the community work together for the good of stray and feral cats.”
TNR of Warren, a 501(c)3 organization, is located in Warren, Ohio. They are not a shelter and they do not take in cats from the public for adoption. The group is strictly a trap-neuter-return organization.
Corky, who runs TNR of Warren, has been with the group since January 2009. In the past, Corky has volunteered at shelters, rescued cats and been on the boards of various rescues. But when Corky was adopted by a group of free roamers in her yard, she knew what her life’s mission was… “to help the unwanted cats of the shadows.”
To date, TNR of Warren has spayed and neutered close to 9,000 cats!
