Smart Pet Fountain by Uahpet

Today I have a review for you of the Smart Pet Fountain by Uahpet. I’m always looking for a great drinking fountain for Harley, our senior cat with kidney disease, and this fountain is a good one!

Unboxing the Smart Pet Fountain

The fountain requires a little setup before use, but it’s pretty quick.

What’s in the box:

  • Water storage bucket
  • Drinking water tray
  • External water pump (with motion sensor)
  • Filter head (attached to the water pump)
  • Filter and filter tray
  • USB C cable (to recharge the battery)

To set up the fountain, first clean the bucket, tray, and filter head – and then give the filter a quick rinse. Now you’re ready to fill the bucket and assemble the fountain. The user manual isn’t super detailed, but the setup wasn’t too complicated. The water pump sits on the outside of the bucket – and the filter tray sits on the opposite side.

Note that the external water pump comes charged (at least mine did), but I also plugged it in for a bit to be sure. (The wall charger is not included.)

Basic Fountain Features

At its core, the Smart Pet Fountain is a fairly basic water fountain for your cat or dog. Here are its standard features.

  • A large 2L (67.6 oz) water storage tank.
  • All pieces come apart completely for easy cleaning.
  • It’s made of antibacterial material.
  • A wide drinking tray allows for whisker relief (your cat won’t get whisker fatigue).

Advanced Fountain Features

Here’s what sets the Smart Pet Fountain apart from other fountains we’ve used.

The wireless pump. I’ve used a few different pet fountains that require the pumps to be plugged in, meaning 1) the fountain needs to be near an outlet, and 2) you have to deal with an unsightly cord.

I love that this pet fountain is wireless! And that it has a rechargeable battery. While I haven’t used it for 120 days yet, Uahpet claims the charge lasts up to 120 days. I’m sure this is dependent on how often your cat drinks from it (see next point).

Motion-activated pump. There are two settings. On the timer mode, you can choose to have the pump automatically run every 15 minutes to cycle the water. Or, you can set it to the motion-activated mode, so it senses when your pet is near and the pump turns on. I have it on the motion-activated setting. When the pump turns on, it is so quiet that it doesn’t startle the cats, which brings me to my next point.

The fountain is very quiet. When the pump goes on, it’s barely noticeable in a completely quiet room. In fact, I actually hear the water trickle more so than the water pump. But neither is very loud, and I would have no problem putting this fountain in a bedroom.

Here is a video with unedited audio of Harley drinking from the fountain.

Likes and Dislikes of the Smart Pet Fountain

I like that the fountain is cordless, the pump is very quiet, and that it’s easy to take apart and clean.

As for dislikes, I have none!

I like it so much that I ordered and paid for a second fountain for another spot in the house after using the free one I received for this review.

Woodrow appears to love it too.

  1. I’ve been seeing that pop up on my Facebook feed. I’ve had several fountains and none were popular with the cats. My cats get kibble in their water all the time so it has to be easy to change.

  2. I cannot get Da Boyz to drink water; not from a fountain, not from my water glass, not from a big bowl, not from a small bowl, not even from the sink faucet!
I add water to their canned food; they seem to like the slurry, and I know they are getting water!
Sweetie, drinks religiously from her big bowl.
    Thanks for this fountain review.

  3. I wish that sort of fountain was available when Eric was still here. It would have saved many flooded kitchen floors when he had to scrape all the water out of ours.

  4. What a great option that it’s cordless! I’ve always had problems with fountains because I wanted to put them in a spot not near an outlet. This one is purrfect! ~the mom

  5. No cord?! No cord?! I LOVE this fountain!!!! Thanks for the review and finding one without a cord that looks easy to clean and at the right height for the kitties, did I tell you I LOVE this fountain? :)

  6. Thank you for reviewing this fountain! I wanted a cordless one for a long time. I just ordered one and used your code! I hope Jake Housepanther likes it.

  7. My cats would only drink out of spouts in house and never out of a bowl. I rec’d this today and I am thrilled. Can’t even hear it. No need to plug into an outlet. Cats walk by it (motion activated mode) and they instantly react to it and start drinking. Yeah!!

  8. Mine isn’t working right…motion sensor setting the water runs constantly & on timer the light on timer indicator keeps shutting off after the first cycle so i don’t know if it is working

    1. I use the motion sensor setting, so I don’t have experience with the timer setting. But for motion sensor, I know the light goes off when it’s not in use. So maybe the light for the timer setting also shuts off between uses?

I did find this on their website: “If you have any issues with our product, please feel free to contact us via support@uahpet.com. We will do our best to solve the issue within 24 hours during business hours.”

Maybe their customer service can confirm or send a new pump unit if yours is defective?

  9. Do I have to press a certain button for the motion part? I can’t seem to figure out if something has to be on or off to have this feature. Right now the water flows continuously and does not stop when no one is around it. How do you get it to only be when motion is detected?

    1. Hi Venita, you use the power button that’s on top of the pump to switch modes. When the fountain is on, the manual says to tap the button to switch between modes. It says the indicator will light up and you will hear short beep. I hope that helps!

  10. We just set ours up and noticed that on the motion sensor it goes into standby mode quickly and when we go up to it to have the motion sensor turn back on it doesn’t. Did you have this problem?

    1. Hi Jaime, I have not experienced this with mine. So it won’t turn back on at all without you pressing the button? My suggestion would be to ask for a replacement – perhaps yours is defective? And just to be sure, you’re not in the timer mode? That mode will go on/off every 15 minutes. I hope you’re able to get it figured out!

    1. Hi Sherry, the light should turn red on the pump to indicate that the battery is running low and needs to be recharged.

  11. Should the battery be beeping while it is charging for the first time. It beeps while the blue light is flashing.

    1. Hi Dee, I have never heard it beep before. I did a quick search of their website and didn’t see anything about it beeping either. I’d suggest maybe reaching out to them?

  12. How long is it supposed to take to charge? I’ve had mine that I got 2 weeks ago charging overnight and it still shows orange when I remove the charging cord. Not sure if it’s not working.

    1. Hi Patty, it should probably only take a few hours at most to fully charge. I’ve never left it plugged in longer than a few hours. Sounds like you might want to contact the company.

  13. Is your fountain still working? I bought 2, my daughter’s is still working and her cats love it. My son’s quit working after a week. I let them know and quickly received another one. After a week it didn’t work again, it won’t charge. We’ve tried different wall connectors…. Am I doing something wrong?

    1. Hi Amy, yes my fountains are still working. I’m not sure what the issue might be. Sounds like they should send you another charger again maybe? I hope they’re able to assist you!

  14. My fountain just stopped working. I have only had it a month. I tried charging it. Left it for several hours and nothing. I emailed the company but was wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this?
