Chatty Cats: Busy, Blues and More!

Happy Friday! Our news this week was that we opened the catio up over the weekend. The cats have been very happy about that, and all but Harley visit it every day. I’m sorry for those of you who have snow again. Hopefully, it won’t last long. Here’s to hoping for warmer weather and no more signs of winter!

Here’s what the cats were chatting about this past week.

Escape Artist

Mama: You’re pretty proud of yourself, aren’t you?
Woodrow: Whatever do you mean?
Mama: Next time you run out of the house, I’m not chasing after you.
Woodrow: Oh Mama, you’d chase me to the moon and back.
Mama: It’s “I love you to the moon and back.”
Woodrow: Exactly.

Woodrow darted outside again today (when I was letting in our dog). Luckily, it was out our back door which leads to a completely fenced in area. This is the third or fourth time he’s gone out the back door. He did go out the front door once. I wasn’t home – I would’ve freaked out. When he goes out the back door, I calmly go after him so he doesn’t get frightened. If he wanted to, he could climb/jump our 6-foot wooden fence. We adopted Woodrow when he was 4 years old, so who knows if his previous owners let him outside. I’m starting to think they did. That boy! Always keeping things interesting.

No time for photos, Mama. I’s got things to do and places to be! ~Sophie

Poor Kitty

Dexter: I wanna come in now. Please carry me.
Mama: Use the cat door that we installed for you by cutting a hole in our dining room wall.
Dexter: …
Mama: I’m not carrying you.
Dexter: I said please!

Dexter always seems to be in the catio at mealtimes. He can hear me dishing out the food in the kitchen and sits in the catio and cries. He won’t come inside unless I physically hold the cat flap door open. Any other time of day – he goes in and out as he pleases. He’s trained me well.

Making Friends

Olive: OMG, Mama!!!
Mama: What?
Olive: Did you know that lizards have middle fingers?
Mama: Making friends, I see?
Olive: His name is Sampson.

tortie cat can't believe it!

With catio season comes lizard season. Yesterday I saw Woodrow and Olive desperately trying to get to a lizard that ran under the catio rug. Hopefully that lizard learned his lesson and steers clear of the catio.

Whoopsies!

Sophie: Dexter, help me put Mama’s phone back. 📸 Whoops, I just took a selfie. Help me delete this photo!
Dexter: You’re on your own.
Sophie: But Mama’s gonna know it was me who ordered a pallet of tuna, 2 tubs of freeze dried chicken treats, a cat tree and a new purse!

Harley Sings the Blues

Here I sit, alone in my box
Singin’ the tummy-growlin’ blues
One hour has passed
Since my last repast
And my tummy, it is a-rumblin’
No Mama in sight,
This just ain’t right
Send food, I say, send food!
~Hungry Harley
P.S. Food can be sent to my big box, c/o Mama
P.P.S. I prefer something of the poultry variety

  1. What a great batch of photos and “matching” conversations! Never a dull moment that’s for sure – I bet the gang loves that catio even if “SOMEONE” forgets they can go in and out the cat flap on their own without help!!!

    Hugs, Teddy and Mom Pam

  2. We are lucky our crew doesn’t try and escape out the doors – not ever Ruby who is actually supposed to go outside. And oh my gosh, you kitties are so lucky to have a catio. All we have are sunny windows, which aren’t open yet because it’s too cold.

  3. Woodrow, please don’t go outside just stick to the catio. You all crack me up. Cute selfie Sophie. I hope you all have a nice weekend. XO

  4. Whoa! Sophie is on a mission in the catio. Nickie used to always run out both the front and the back door until one time TW tried to quick close the door and cut the end of his tail off.

  5. Several of my cats have been strays who just showed up one day and stayed. It seems like the males never adapt to being indoor kitties and I’ve had to accept that their happiness comes with risk. They all come in at night but when I worked, the boys would go out all day.

  6. Bear used to dart out on me – it became a game where he did it just to prove he could. My favorite story though is my brother cat-sitting for his boss … and a certain tiny escape artist. My brother was washing dishes and noticed out the window that Houdini had gotten out. He chased that cat around the neighborhood for an hour and a half and only stopped when his wife called and wanted to know what he was doing because both cats were at home. Oops.

  7. Hysterical! Well, except for Woodrow trying to go outside.

Olive, with the commentary about Sampson the Lizard with the middle fingers FTW! MOL!
