Cat in the Box (Day 2 of 12 Days of Giveaways)

Day 2 of 12 Days of Giveaways is presented by Cat in the Box! The company sells whimsical cardboard box toys for cats who think inside the box. Founder and creator Dawn LaFontaine sent the cats a Mega Milk Carton for review. Let’s see what they thought!

Cat in the Box Disclosure

Sophie Investigates the Mega Milk Carton

Sophie: What’s this, Mama?
Mama: What do you think it is?
Sophie: I don’t know. I better take a closer look.

Sophie: Hellllooo in there!

Sophie: Whoa, Dexter. Whatever this is…it’s amazing.

Big Cat Challenge

So, the Mega Milk Carton passed Sophie’s inspection. But will it fit our biggest cat in the house?

Woodrow: Mama, am I gonna fit in here?

Woodrow: I fit, Mama!
Dexter: Congratulations. Now get out!

The cats weren’t sure about getting inside the box until I turned it on its side. All five cats have tried it out (even Harley who isn’t into boxes!), but Sophie pretty much owns the box and will climb in if it’s on its side or upright. When on its side, she’ll lay down and stay put with her head popping out one of the holes. There have even been a few scuffles between Sophie and Dexter as to whose turn it is to occupy the box. Sophie usually wins.

About Cat in the Box

Cat in the Box Logo

Dawn LaFontaine was inspired to develop the boxes and start the company after a visit to her mother’s cat sitter. Dawn says, “As I stepped into this woman’s otherwise impeccably decorated living room, I noticed that it looked like a loading dock, with shipping cartons everywhere. She saw me looking around and sheepishly explained, ‘They’re for the cats.’ I already knew that cats liked boxes (there is real science to explain why) but it got me thinking, why do people put up with ugly Amazon boxes in their homes?”

And so, Cat in the Box was born! Currently, there are two boxes to choose from – the Mega Milk Carton (which we reviewed) and the Monster Cheese Wedge. Both are for sale on the Cat in the Box website and currently priced at $22.50 each. (But wait – we have a discount code below for $5.00 off one box!)

A Dedicated Foster Home

Although Dawn has created a company that develops cat products, she currently doesn’t have any resident cats at home. Why? Because she’s a dedicated foster home for cats from the shelter where she volunteers at! Dawn recently just finished fostering a litter of kittens who were separated from their mother too early.

Check out the kittens in action! Starsky (all black), Hutch (all gray), Jane (black and white), and Maura (Siamese mix).

  1. Those boxes look like so much fun, and a lot nicer than an ordinary box. Good luck to all those who enter.

  2. My girls would love these — especially if there was a range of sizes…..they like to sprawl in cardboard boxes.

    1. Haha, yes! When Harley first came to us in foster, he was 8 pounds and some change. He’s now about 10 pounds. Woodrow is 14 pounds! He’s our tallest and longest cat.

  3. Oh I saw the milk carton box on another blog and thought it was absolutely adorable. I think Teddy would like the milk carton – all those holes on the cheese would confuse him. HAHAHA Such a lovely giveaway.

    Hugs, Pam

  4. Milk does a body good! We’d be the hit at next #fridaynightboxpawty with the box added to our collection! You cats make it look ameowzing!

  5. Omg! That is the cutest thing ever! My daughter makes boxes for our cats with holes in them too but this is so cute.

  6. Those boxes are so much fun! We have the milk carton one here, so we will not enter so that others have a better chance to win. :) Good luck to all!

  7. We have those boxes and absolutely ADORE THEM and we adore Dawn, she is just the sweetest! Your photos came out soooooooooo much better than mine when I reviewed it. Adorable! Not entering because we have them, but good luck to all who enter!!! Actually, we were already planning to include them in our list of Holiday Favorites (toys, etc from 2018) that we hope to publish on Wednesday……..these are just so creative and adorable. Fabulous review too! xxoxo

  8. One of my cats loves boxes, can’t wait to get into one even if it’s half his size which is funny to watch. I think he’d like the milk carton a lot,

  9. i dont know but i like the monster cheese box the best. i dont have cats, entering to donate to safe haven for cats which is a great shelter. they have the only local food bank for pets in the area and they rescue thousands of cats every year. only 1-3 paid people and rest are volunteers.

  10. Batts, Saylor and Lux really want to win. They promise to share and aren’t picky as to which one they would like!

  11. my cats love boxes, they would love the milk carton since there is more room and one of my cats is a big boy

  12. My female cat LOVES boxes. She’s constantly trying to get in them, when all I want to do is get rid of them, so they aren’t taking up room in my house. LOL. But, I think she would love this box toy – the Mega Milk Carton especially.

  13. Our cat, Fritz, loves boxes! He loves when I get a package and there is also paper packaging. he would love the Mega Milk Carton the best.

  14. the box comes complete with 4 kittens, right? my kitties’ “premium” play box was outside and destroyed by rain. i’d love to have something other than Amazon boxes inside the house!!

    1. Very funny! Four kittens at once turns your house into a circus – believe me!! Sorry to hear that the kitties special box was ruined. Maybe you’ll win one of my boxes and they’ll have a new fav!!

      1. I participated in the kickstarter for the company that was making boxes that looked like landmarks. i think we chose the taj mahal. but the founders ran out of money and we never got our boxes.

          1. They had something like 5 landmarks to choose from… White House and St. Peter’s were among them. They weren’t cheap so it was an extreme bummer to lose my money. I think they just didn’t know anything about business. Too bad cause they were super fun in the pre-production pics/vids!!

  15. Sophie has claimed that carton! I think she’s going to hang up curtains in that round window and start taking in some of her purr-sonal belongings to set up a little she shed in there! Tee hee hee. I think I would have lots of fun in that cheese wedge. Winks.

  16. My cats love playing, sleeping and sitting in boxes LOL I think they’d love the Monster Cheese Wedge the best.
