Chatty Cats: Dottie, Santa Watch and More!

Happy Friday! Did you see our announcement on Wednesday? If not, let me tell you here as well. Starting tomorrow (Saturday, December 1st), we’re hosting 12 Days of Giveaways as a way to say thank you to our readers and followers this holiday season. So, we hope to see you there!

Here’s what the cats were chatting about this past week.

Olive vs. Dottie

Mama: Wanna help me decorate the tree, Olive?
Olive: I can’t. I’m having a staring contest with Dottie, my arch nemesis.
Mama: Good luck with that.
Olive: It’s not about luck, Mama. It’s about steadfastness and determination.

So Demanding

Woodrow: Mama, hand me the treat! Hurry up!
Mama: Back up so I can close the treat drawer. And say please.
Woodrow: Please hurry up, Mama!

Fancy Phones

Harley: Gah! grumble grumble Darn front-facing camera.
Mama: Need some help, Harley?
Harley: No! I got it, I got it. Darn kids today with their fancy phones and technology. When I was a kitten, phones weren’t invented yet. And I had to walk eight miles to the litter box…uphill…both ways! And no one was taking selfies and Instagramming their food. Now look at the world today! grumble grumble
Mama: What are you even trying to do right now?
Harley: Take a selfie for Instagram, Mama. Like, duh.

Santa Watch 2018

Mama: What are you two doing?
Dexter: We’re camped out on Santa watch.
Mama: He’s not going to be here for another month.
Dexter: We’re taking turns being on watch, Mama. Sheesh! We’re not crazy! That’s why there are two of us…so the month will go by twice as fast.

No Touchy the Tree

Woodrow: Mama, I love dat tree. It’s so shiny and bright.
Mama: Yep, it is.
Woodrow: I’ve been staring at it all day. Mama, I can’t not look at it!
Mama: That’s fine. Just don’t touch it.
Woodrow: (whispering) I touched the tree, Mama.

I put about twenty ornament bells all around the tree so I can hear when the cats are checking it out. It was quite jingly all day today. Do you have any Christmas tree hacks for your cats?

Silly Mama

Mama: Dexter, will you move? I need to put the blankets on the bed.
Dexter: Do you really want me to answer that?
Mama: Dexter!
Dexter: Mama!

Sophie’s Gotcha Day

Harley: Hey, guys. Whatcha doing?
Dexter: Sophie, don’t look at him, don’t talk to him. He’ll go away.
Harley: Anyway…uh…I just wanted to pop in and wish Sophie a Happy Gotcha Day.
Sophie: Thanks, Harley!
Dexter: I said don’t talk to him!!!

Sophie joined our family four years ago today on November 29, 2014. Many already know, but we found her outside a movie theater two days after Thanksgiving that year. The vet estimated her to be about 6 months old. We had two cats at the time – Dexter took to her immediately, but Olive still has yet to warm up to her. Sophie fills the “goofball” role of the family and makes us laugh every single day. She’s also a big sweetheart and loves to cuddle with Dexter and us humans. I’ve heard she’s the favorite of some readers/followers – and I can see why. Happy Gotcha Day, Sophie!!! I’m so happy the movie theater security guard asked me if I’d take you since he’d already called animal control!

Bonus Friday Photos

So yes, I already shared these on social media. But they’re too cute not to share here as well. Ikea kid size armchair…for the cats of course! They all love it. Olive has enjoyed it as well, but I didn’t have my camera handy when she was sitting in it.

We hope to see you stop by tomorrow for our first day of 12 Days of Giveaways!

  1. So fun! And the tree idea…brilliant! We tie ours to the wall because our 14 pound Maine Coon Kitten, Sterling, is a climber! He’s only 2!! Ya know..Maine Coon cats take up to 5 years to get to full maturity! We’ll be installing lag bolts for the next tree! We also hang all their toy ornaments along the bottom branches….it usually keeps them out of the tree!
    Happy Howlerdays!!

  2. Happy Gotcha Day, Sophie! I used to put little bells all around the bottom of the tree and Eric would spend hours under it batting at them.

  3. Sophie, I hope you had a splendid time celebrating your Gotcha Day? Let me guess, that chair is really all yours, right?! You kitties are lucky to get to see the Christmas tree up already. Mom hasn’t begun to set ours up. I hope she does this weekend, ’cause the days are countin’ down. Luvs.

  4. Such cute photos. I hope Sophie enjoyed her Gotcha Day. I love your idea of bells to know when the tree is being touched :) Have a nice weekend!

  5. Don’t tell our mom and dad, Woodrow, but we touched the tree, too.

Happy Gotcha Day, Sophie! You sure gotcha’d yourself a great happily ever after.

Bonus chair photos … so cute!
