Chatty Cats: Scratcher Time, Dilemmas and More!

As many know, California has seen some hard times this month. The Camp Fire in Northern California, still only 40% contained at the time of this writing, is now the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history. It basically wiped out the entire town of Paradise, California.

And in Southern California, we’ve seen a mass shooting and multiple wildfires, the biggest being the Woolsey Fire, which is 57% contained at the time of this writing. (I am a safe distance away from the fires in SoCal, about 70 miles south.)

I mentioned on Wednesday that many animals have been affected by the fires. You can visit The Humane Society of Ventura County to look into how to help. This is just one of many organizations stepping up and helping in Southern California. Please also visit UC Davis Veterinary Emergency Response Team for Northern California. They have a lot of unclaimed animals from the Camp Fire.

We hope everyone everywhere is staying safe and holding their pets and loved ones close.

Here’s what the cats were chatting about this past week.

Scratcher Time

Sophie: Mama, it’s Friday and this is how I celebrate!
Mama: How’s that?
Sophie: Scratcher time. A bit of self-reflection. A snack and a snoozie. You should give it a try. I’ll even let you borrow my scratcher…after my snoozie of course.

Patient Model

Olive: Mama, I’ve been very patient with you this morning. You’ve taken a gazillion photos already. I think I deserve a treat now.
Mama: You’ve been very good and you make a beautiful model. But I’ve already given you a bunch of treats.
Olive: As long as you have a camera in your hand, you better keep those treats coming.

Something fun is coming to the blog three weeks from today (December 1st)! The cats are hard at work preparing (and eating treats of course).

Toe Day

Woodrow: Today is toe day, Mama. Gotta keep these toesies looking good.
Mama: They look pretty good to me!
Woodrow: Want me to work on yours, too?
Mama: I’ll pass, but thank you, Woodrow.
Woodrow: Are you sure, Mama? I’ve seen your toesies…

Guard Cat

Mama: What are you doing, Sophie?
Sophie: Standing guard while Dexter grooms.
Mama: I didn’t know grooming could be so dangerous.
Sophie: You don’t even know the half of it, Mama.
Mama: I really don’t.

Mama’s Mistake

Mama: Hey, Harley. Wake up! I want to tell-
Harley: …
Mama: Oh, never mind. Go back to sleep. I’ll tell you later.

Mama: Olive, what are you doing sitting outside the kitchen?
Olive: It’s the age-old dilemma, Mama. When your feet want to leave but your tummy wants a snack.

Smells Like…

Dexter: Smells like a good day to stay in bed.
Mama: What do you mean? What’s it smell like?
Dexter: Uh, it kind of smells like salmon in toona juice with a side of catnip and a dash of pumpkin spice latte.

Bonus Friday Video

This is from a few weeks ago, but I thought it’s pretty cute and wanted to share. Sophie “hangs out” like this every once in a while.

“Hey Olive, whatcha doing down there?”

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  1. we saw the sad pictures of the fire and we cried with the families of the victims… but we looked also at the firefighter and so many people who came to rescue people and pets… there is still something good in our society and we hope it will grow…

  2. Although I live in Scotland the news of the shooting and fires still pull at my heart strings. All those poor helpless people and animals. The fire fighters could not be thanked enough. One thing it’s such a blessing people come together and try to help in anyway.
About your week gosh I love Sophies scratcher time and those eyes are beautiful.Woodrow you have such beautiful pink tooties. Olive,s pose was just perfect when your feet want to leave. The video was pawsome. x😻💜🐾🐾🐾

  3. Good minds run in the same trolley tracks (or something like that). I posted the same links on my blog this morning too. I was particularly touched by the people helping with the horses. You can’t exactly load them in your car to take with you but there are some folks out there helping and providing a safe place for them.

  4. It’s a very tough situation with those deadly fires. We have so many fires in the summer that all our resources are stretched to the max. The animals that have lost their homes whether domestic or wild is so very heart wrenching. The wonderful peeps that spend their time and money should get rewards.

The cats chatter today was so realistic. We loved it.

  5. I can’t look at Harley’s face and not feel happy. He makes me smile every time.

California has been hit so bad. My mom’s side of the family all lives in CA so I’ve been following the fires pretty closely. So many animals and people hurt and/or displaced by the fires – so incredibly sad. I can’t even imagine.

  6. The tragedies in California are unbelievably sad.
Great chats from everyone, but I love Woodrow’s pink nose tongue and jelly beans.

  7. You’re kinda on the samll side, Olive. I think you need to go into the kitchen and eat.
We’re glad you guys aren’t near those fires. TW says she can’t even think of those animals who have burnt up.

  8. Sophie has a serious “hangover”…..very cute little video! We must say that our hearts HURT from the terrible sadness that everyone in California is experiencing with the horror of fires, loss of life and home for humans and animals alike. It’s heartbreaking and we pray EVERY DAY that the fires will STOP. Living with uncertainty is awful. We worry for all of you……..

    Hugs, Teddy and Mom Pam

  9. It was so hard to see photos of so many cats with their whiskers burned off!! And, last I saw, none of the tracked bobcats seem to be moving (11 of 13 mountain lions appear to be alive; 2 unknown). The NorCal devastation is just too much to comprehend!!

I’m glad you’re all safe & sound, and hope you remain that way!

    1. No, I think it’s just an awkward angle? She’s always been very small, but she also does get quite floofy sometimes! :-)
